Claude AI Now Controls Your Computer

Claude AI now controls your computer and I'm not being dramatic here. Yesterday Anthropic dropped a huge update for Claude Co-Work and Claude Code. Claude can now literally use your computer. You point, click, navigate, open apps, fill in spreadsheets, browse the web, run tools and it can do all of that autonomously as an AI agent on its own.

This is computer use and it just went live. Here's what actually happened. Anthropic announced the inside Claude Co-Work and Claude Code. You can now turn on a feature that lets Claude control your screen directly.

It opens your apps, navigates your browser, fills in spreadsheets, anything that you'd normally do sitting at your desk. You can describe the outcome you want and Claude figures out exactly how to get there. That's not a chatbot, that is an AI employee working 24-7 and the way it works is very smart. Claude will reach for the most precise tool first, starting with connectors to services like for example Slack or Google Calendar and when there is a connector Claude can directly control your browser, your mouse, your keyboard and your screen to complete tasks.

So it's not just clicking around like blindly, it's trying the clean route first and if that doesn't exist it goes manual. Think about what that means. You don't have to connect every app perfectly. If there's no integration for something Claude just uses the screen like you would.

It sees what you see, it does what you do and now let's talk about what just got even more powerful because of this. So there's a feature called Dispatch. It launched about a week ago. Dispatch is a feature inside Claude Cowork that lets you send your tasks to your desktop AI from your phone and return to finished work later.

Your desktop processes the tasks locally, your phone is the remote control. So here's the picture, you're on the train, you pull out your phone, you type out, pull together the week's sales data and drop it into the weekly template. You hit send, you put your phone away, you get off the train, you sit down at your desk, the work is already done and Claude has done it using your computer now. That's the future but it's happening right now.

You tap dispatch in the app, write your prompt, hit send and Claude picks it up on your desktop, opens up a Cowork session and starts working on it. Your PC needs to be on and the Claude desktop app needs to be running but that's basically it. One person actually demoed this live. Whilst heading to meet a friend they actually sent a task from their phone to compile presentation materials for an upcoming talk.

What happened next? Well Claude opened Cowork on the desktop, worked through the folder and generated a PowerPoint completely finished, complete with a full slide outline before they even got back. That's the kind of thing that used to take hours. Now it's done whilst you're walking to a coffee shop and the safety side is real here too.

Execution happens in a local sandbox environment. Your files never leave your computer, processing is local and no sensitive data is sent to anthropic servers. Claude asks for permission before it touches anything significant which means you can work it and watch it work in real time or just walk away. Now who is this actually for?

Well pretty much any knowledge worker right? This could be a social media manager at a small agency. Maybe she gets a slack message from a client at 8am asking for a content report. Instead of sitting down and pulling it in manually she opens up a phone, sends dispatch the task and goes to make coffee and the report's ready by the time she sits down.

No spreadsheet work, no copy and pasting, just done. Good to go. A freelancer running five accounts for example. Maybe he sets up a recurring dispatch task, checks emails every morning and pulls metrics every week.

Claude handles the busy work automatically with computer use. It's just tapping buttons and clicking through and working on the computer and he wakes up to finished briefings every single day. That is what AI automation looks like in the real world today and it's not about prompting a chatbot for answers but now it's about handing off real tasks and coming back to real results. Now this is the time to get serious about this because right now most people are still using AI like a search engine.

You know they ask it questions, they get answers and they manually do all the work themselves. It doesn't make sense. Now back to the update. Let's talk about what this is actually competing with because this computer use feature isn't new to the AI world. Perplexity launched their computer agent. OpenAI has been pushing in this direction with OpenClaw.

The AI agent movement actually started on Clawd before being bought by OpenAI. Now Perplexity computer and Metas Manus are active in the same space but here's what makes a Clawd's version interesting. It's already backed and baked into a product regular people are using right now and Cowork is in the Clawd desktop app right now already. You download Clawd desktop, you switch to Cowork mode and you try your task first.

Now most users hit their first wow moment within about 10 minutes of using it. It's not a developer tool, it's for anyone and here's the thing about where this is going right now. Right now the success rate on complex tasks is about 50 percent. Simple tasks like file search and summaries work more reliable.

Anthropic is being honest about that. This is a research preview, it's early, it will improve but think about the trajectory here. This is the worst it's ever going to be. Six months ago no AI could reliably use a computer at all.

Now we have a tool that works half the time on complex tasks. In six more months the direction is obvious so people who learn how to work with these tools now who build the habits, the workflows, the prompts, they will have a massive head start when this stuff becomes reliable because here's the truth. The moment Clawd can reliably complete complex tasks on your computer with a 90 percent success rate the question isn't should I use this, the question becomes why wasn't I already using this six or three months ago and you don't want to be the person asking that question. So the gap between people who understand AR automation and people who don't is already huge.

It's going to get bigger fast. You don't have to be a developer, you don't need to write code, you just need to understand how to give clear instructions and set up the right workflows. That's it, that's the skill that matters right now. Clawd co-work with computer use is live today.
