Claude AutoDream: AI That Thinks While You Sleep

Claude's auto dream leak just changed everything so Anthropic just accidentally showed us exactly where Claude is going and it's bigger than anything they've announced publicly. Here's what's happened so on March 31st a developer named XiaoFanShou spotted something on the npm registry a 59.8 megabyte source map file accidentally bundled into Claude code version 2.1 AA and the file was meant only for internal debugging it was never supposed to be public but within hours 512,000 lines of typescript were mirrored across github. Thousands of people reading Anthropic's internal code for Claude code and buried inside that code was something called auto dreamed and this is what I want to talk about today because auto dream inside that code a system called auto dream this is what I want to talk to you about today because auto dream solves the single biggest problem with every AI tool you're using right now and if you're never interrupts what Claude is already doing it runs clean in the background on its own schedule and it has a three gate trigger system all three conditions have to pass before auto dream activates this is in the source code the leaked source code and their words were to prevent over dreaming or under dreaming it only runs when there's actually something worth consolidating when it does run it goes through four phases phase number one is it reads your memory md file and skims for existing topic files it then checks what it already knows phase number two is it hunts for new information worth keeping it prioritizes your daily log first and that anything from there that's drifted from what it previously understood and then it does a transcript search as well phase number three is consolidation so it writes or updates your memory files and phase four is cleanup so removes contradictions it converts vague observations into hard facts so next time you open Claude code already knows what project you're on already knows your preferences already knows what decisions you made last session you skip the re-explaining instantly and you just focus on the work so that stops draining your energy it makes things faster it makes things more productive and your agents now have way better context now what does this actually sit on top of so there's a three layer memory architecture layer one is memory md a lightweight file short references only so for example key facts your preferences project context layer number two is a deeper project notes so this is only pulled in when they're relevant to what you're doing right now layer number three is past session history so it searches selectively on demand and it would never load all of this at once so this is the part that matters most ai tools dump everything into the context window at once and just hope it holds together Claude code system is selective with this it knows what to load what to archive what to ignore and where to go and find whenever you need it so the ai in theory is better at managing now i don't think it's going to be fully polished even when it does come out but this is a more professional way to store context and it's a better architecture than maybe anything we've had before now think about what that means for running client work for example let's say you've got five
