01What Is Claude Code Agent View and How It Works
Claude Code Agent View is a new feature that lets you manage all your AI agents from one clean list inside a single terminal window. Instead of juggling five, six, or seven terminal tabs, you get one view where you can see every session you are running. You can check what is active, what finished, and what needs your attention without switching tabs.
This feature is available as a research preview. You can run fully autonomous agents in parallel or coordinate tasks from one list while you do something else. The main benefit is that you stop wasting time managing chaos and start getting more work done.
02Main Features of the New Agent View
- Single-window management β All agents appear in one terminal view, not across multiple tabs.
- Parallel sessions β You can dispatch several tasks at the same time and each one runs independently.
- Peek and reply β Select a session to peek at its last output. If it is waiting for a decision, you can reply and then press left to go back.
- Completed status β Finished tasks show a clear indicator so you know which are ready to review.
- Auto mode β Agents can work autonomously and make decisions without your input.
- Scalable β You can run many concurrent sessions, each paired with a skill, and return to a list of pull requests for review.
03How to Set Up and Open Agent View
- Open your terminal. Agent view works inside the terminal, not inside the desktop app.
- Type claude agent in the terminal to launch the agent view.
- Press the left arrow key from any session to open the main agent view list.
- You can also run claude agents from the terminal to open agent view directly.
- Once the agent view is open, you can start creating new tasks and dispatching them in the background.
04How to Use Agent View with Real Examples
In the episode, Julian demonstrates a typical workflow. He starts by typing claude agent in the terminal. Then he creates several tasks in the background.
For example, he says "keyword research for AICO" and it begins working. He adds another task: "create a simple HTML landing page." Then a third: "create an AISEO calculator for organic keywords."
All three tasks appear in the agent view list. You can click any task to see its full terminal output. Press left to go back to the main list.
When a task finishes, you see a completed status. In the episode, the HTML page task completed while Julian was talking. You can then click on it to review the result.
You can also run tasks in auto mode so the agent works autonomously without you handling anything.
You can even have agents manage other agents. Julian shows setting up a skill inside Hermes or AI SEO, then having that agent manage other agents in the background using the Hermes agent MCP.
05Results and Comparisons from the Episode
The agent view solves the problem of managing multiple terminal tabs. Previously, you might have five, six, or seven tabs open. One might be doing keyword research.
One is writing content. Another crashed 20 minutes ago without you knowing. You spent more time managing chaos than working.
With agent view, everything runs in one window. You see all agents at once. You can check what is active, finished, or waiting.
Julian shows three tasks running simultaneously: keyword research, a landing page, and an SEO calculator. All were dispatched quickly and one completed while he talked.
Julian compares agent view to the old method of opening separate terminal tabs or cloud sessions in each tab. He calls that "super messy and difficult to manage." Agent view makes it much easier to organize and be more productive.
06Tips, Limits and Mistakes to Avoid
- Use Obsidian for long tasks β If you run huge tasks, context can fill up. Tell your agents to write notes into Obsidian (a second brain) as they work. This way you never lose context, and other agents can access those notes too.
- Compact context if needed β In Claude code or desktop, type /compact to shrink the context window. This is useful for very large tasks, though Julian rarely runs out of context.
- Handover documents β If compacting loses details, have your agent create a handover document with key notes.
- Agent view is in research preview β It may have limits or changes as it develops.
- Auto mode is not for every task β For decisions that need your input, use peek and reply instead of letting the agent run autonomously.
07Who Should Use Agent View and Why It Matters
Anyone who runs multiple AI agents regularly will benefit. If you manage tasks like keyword research, content creation, coding, or website building across several sessions, agent view saves you time and reduces mess. You no longer have to juggle terminal tabs or lose track of what each agent is doing.
This matters because it lets you scale your productivity. You can dispatch several projects at once and check results from one place. For power users who want to grow their output, agent view is a simple but powerful upgrade.
It also works well with open-source tools like Hermes agent, which you can customize and connect to your own APIs.
