01What Claude Duet is and how it works

Claude Duet is Claude's new AI agent from Anthropic. It is an AI helper that lives on its own computer in the cloud, works while you are away, and comes to you when it needs something or something needs you.

It landed on October 21st, 2026. It is Anthropic's answer to Meta's Muse, OpenAI's Dots and xAI's Grokbar.

Here is how fast this happened. xAI announced Grokbar on August 11th as a beta. Meta announced Muse on September 8th. OpenAI unveiled Dots on September 29th, and Duet came out on October 21st.

That is four of the biggest AI companies with the same idea within 71 days. Julian Goldie's take is that they all see the same future: an AI that does the work around your business without you typing every request.

02Why Claude Duet flips how AI agents work

If you run a business, your day is spread across many apps. Think email, calendar, invoices, your CRM, Slack, payroll and your store. None of it is hard, but there is a lot of it.

The stuff that hurts most is the stuff you do not see. A lead who emailed and never got a reply. An invoice nobody chased.

A meeting that clashes with something else.

Up to now, even strong AI agents wait for you to ask. You open the app, give it a job, and it does the job. If you do not know a problem exists, you cannot ask the AI to fix it.

Claude Duet is designed to flip the order. It looks first, then it tells you, then it gets a fix ready and waits for you to approve it. Anthropic says it built Duet for professionals and small business owners who have more on their plate than they can track.

03Claude Duet features and what you get

Here are the main facts on what Claude Duet is and what it connects to.

  • Research preview: It is early, and you join a wait list to get in.
  • Plans: It is for Claude Pro and Max plans in the US right now. Team and Enterprise plans are not in yet.
  • Model: It runs on Claude Opus 5.5. Anthropic picked it because the whole app depends on judgment, such as what needs you, what can wait, and when to check with you first.
  • Connectors: It works with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins. A connector is a plug that links Claude to one of your apps.
  • Apps: It is an app on iPhone and Android, and on a computer you can use it at Claude.ai.

Examples of apps include Gmail, Slack, Google Calendar, QuickBooks, Shopify, HubSpot, DocuSign, Canva, Notion and Gusto. OpenAI says each Dot can connect to more than 4,000 apps, so Duet starts with a bigger list.

It checks your connected apps every few hours, not every minute.

04A Claude Duet demo with a coffee company

Anthropic showed a full demo with a pretend coffee company called Marlowe. The owner wakes up to a message that says five things are in progress, and asks whether she is needed.

One of those is a new store opening in 26 days. Claude Duet built the opening checklist using her last two store openings. It has 41 items. 33 are done or on track, and seven are being watched.

One needs her today.

So it does not dump 41 things on her. It tells her the one. Julian says that is the core of Claude Duet, because most people do not need more information.

They need the one thing to look at first.

Then it goes further. It spots that subscription cancellations went from about 2.6% to 3.4% right after a shipping price change. It digs in and finds most people who cancelled gave shipping costs as a reason.

It works out that free shipping over $40 would have kept about 7 in 10 of them. Then it asks if she wants a two-week test. Nobody asked it to look at churn.

It noticed and came back with a fix.

05What makes Claude Duet different from Muse, Dots and Grokbar

Julian is honest that a lot of this is not new. Muse runs on a dedicated virtual machine in the cloud. Each Dot has its own cloud computer and browser, and every Grokbar gets its own computer too.

Having its own computer is not special anymore.

Here is what is different about Duet.

  • It brings your Claude with it. Your memory, skills and connected apps carry over from the Claude app, so you do not start from zero.
  • It decides when to talk to you. It sends a short brief every morning on the most important things across your apps, then goes quiet. It only messages you during the day when something needs you, and you can tell it what to share and how often.
  • It keeps the keys out of the agent. It does not directly see your passwords or sign-in tokens, using the same design as Anthropic's managed agents.

By comparison, Meta says Muse's virtual machine holds the agent, your data and your credentials. Dots does proactive research with read-only tools that cannot send messages or change anything.

06Safety checks inside Claude Duet

The fourth difference is a new checker for sensitive information. Anthropic built a brand new classifier for Claude Duet. A classifier is a checker that looks at every message before it goes out.

It sorts sensitive information into levels. The most sensitive items, such as government ID numbers, are blocked. Things like health details or personal matters only go through if you clearly told it to send them.

This matters because an agent that reads your emails and sends messages for you is always deciding where information should go. One wrong move could expose private details.

Meta has something similar. A separate agent called Sentinel has to approve everything Muse sends to the internet. Anthropic also says Duet has defenses against hidden instructions, which is when an email or web page has sneaky text inside it that tries to trick the AI.

Coming soon, with your permission, Duet will be able to sign in to sites using logins you saved with 1Password. It will also never do one thing for you, even if you tap yes, which Julian says shows how Anthropic built it.

07How to use Claude Duet with your apps

Duet works with the apps you connect. You send a short message and it works out which apps to open and what steps to take.

  1. Join the wait list and get access on a Claude Pro or Max plan in the US.
  2. Connect your apps, such as Gmail, calendar or your CRM.
  3. Tell it what you want to hear about and how often.
  4. Approve the fixes and drafts it prepares for you.

Here are examples from the episode.

  • Find messages you missed in Gmail and help you reply.
  • Draft a blog post and put it on LinkedIn once you approve it.
  • Prepare agreements and send them for signature through DocuSign.
  • Take a product launch into a social media campaign in Canva.
  • Build a weekly report from HubSpot.

You can close your laptop and turn your phone off, and it pings you once it is done. It also has a digital wallet, so it can buy things for you with your approval.

Julian gives his own example from Goldie Agency. An agent that knows your services can check the inbox every few hours and say which leads have not heard back in a few days, with replies already drafted.

08Claude Duet limits and who it is for

Julian lists the limits clearly, so you know what to expect.

  • It shares your Claude plan's usage limits. Background checks count towards them, and big jobs like building a presentation or a website use more.
  • It can misread things, like any other agent.
  • You cannot see its browser right now. You can see what it has done and is doing, but you cannot open its screen or steer it. Dots and Grokbar let you open their computers.
  • It has its own app, separate from the main Claude app. Anthropic says what it learns from early users will shape how the two come together.
  • It is US only and on a wait list, so people outside the US will be waiting.

On the plus side, you can start on your phone. A Dot has to be set up in the ChatGPT desktop app or a desktop browser first.

It is for anyone whose business is spread across many apps. The people who get the most from it are the ones who set up Claude properly now, with memory, skills and connected apps. You can build all of that today, wherever you are.
