Claude Fable 5 + Mythos is GONE (BANNED!)

Claude, Fable 5 and Mythos 5 have both been banned by the US government. Now I've already covered this today but what I want to show you today is exactly how deep the rabbit hole goes because there's loads of interesting new stuff that's just come out about this whole situation which makes it get weirder. So this is the original tweet if you've not seen it already and the announcement that the US government citing national security authorities has issued an export control directive to suspend Fable 5 and Mythos 5. That was for all foreign nationals inside or outside the US but actually what they decided to do in the end is just pull it for everyone right so you can't use Claude Fable 5 at all now.

However it gets stranger than that. Now what happened after that is a new development came out all right so if you're not familiar with this basically a new development came out which turned out that Arrival Lab potentially has turned anthropic. This is what's being reported and this is a big news piece. So the supposed jailbreak that triggered the ban didn't come from like a random person.

Apparently according to the Wall Street Journal it came from Amazon researchers. Obviously Amazon they create their own AR models they're kind of like Arrival but they also support cloud-based models as well like Claude and they reported it straight to the US government according to what's being reported here according to the sources. So according to this you see the International Cyber Digest and I think they were actually referencing Wall Street Journal who have reported it. Amazon researchers went to the US government about jailbreaking Fable 5 and Mythos 5 forcing Anthropic to immediately shut down worldwide access security export control directive obviously got issued by Howard Lutnick after that to enforce the action.

Now if you look at the quote here and I think this is from Wall Street Journal we'll come on to that in a second so you can see the claim about the Amazon researchers has come from this article which is pretty crazy and so you might be wondering okay what happened well basically the jailbreak research in question was done by researchers at Amazon who used a series of prompts to get Anthropic's model to provide them with information about a handful of security vulnerabilities says Katie Mosoris chief executive with the cyber security firm Anthropic shared a copy of the report with her she said which is pretty wild right so this is all apparently come from Amazon so if you think about this you know this letter was sent directly you know Rival Lab not a bad actor evidence was verbal apparently it was a pretty mundane thing there was obviously no proven harm or anything like that and then it went public as well. Now also another interesting thing here is that there's this this guy or girl who basically announced that they actually jailbroke Amazon as well right sorry not Amazon Claude right so you can see the details here in terms of what they did and what they announced etc which is pretty wild and so I've got two million views and I think that'll be going viral right now with people sharing it on x etc but basically what this means is that they also announced that they you know supposedly liberated Fable 5 which is pretty crazy in itself right so this hasn't been linked to the reason why it got shut down the Amazon research report is linked to why but you can see like multiple different situations where the model has been jailbroken and so that's pretty crazy in itself now foreign nationals this applies to foreign nationals who's a foreign national well apparently and this is another tweet by Andrew Curran sorry Andrew Curran who announced that according to Grok Andrej Karpathy is an EB1 extraordinary ability green card recipient not a US citizen which means that Andrej Karpathy's on the Anthropic team got locked out of this as well I don't know if these are true like this is just speculation at this point but you know this is pretty interesting so Andrej Karpathy or Karpathy read it a site in this as well that he's an EB1 so a Slovak Canadian AI researcher he has citizenship in Slovakia and Canada so that would suggest that Andrej Karpathy who's like godfather of AI on the Anthropic team wouldn't be able to access this because this applies to any foreign national how crazy is that so even like people at the top top top tiers like seeing all the crazy stuff behind the scenes with Claude even he can't access it so if that's true because of his visa status now you multiply that across you know thousands of brilliant engineers in the US labs as well who happen not to hold a US passport that's the real cost of this is like you know fantastic minds fantastic engineers who are moving this technology forward can't access it too because they're foreign nationals and the ban applies to foreign nationals inside or outside the US also something interesting as well you know Julian was talking about this and so you know there was already this Claude proxy for Chinese market that could absolutely explode with this whole situation as well and here's a contrarian take which is from Signal and I saw a few comments on this already on my other videos about this but basically whilst everyone panicked a few people pointed out to the obvious you know what's the ultimate flex for a company building a model so capable the government had to switch it off which is interesting itself and there's a sharper version of this take as well you know that Anthropic the company very focal about AI safety regulation basically got the outcome they were campaigning for so earlier this week or in fact sorry probably last weekend I think it was they were calling for the government to halt the production of AI and so Chakchipati obviously their models haven't been shut down your rival companies like Google their models haven't been shut down even though they do own a stake for Anthropic but Anthropic's called Mythos 5 and Fable 5 has been shut down so it's pretty interesting and kind of ironic that you know Anthropic were asking for this and now it's kind of happened so whether you buy into and bear in mind they didn't publicly agree with the decision that's been made because of the context of the situation but whether you buy this or not like the branding is undeniable as well like the model was so smart that the government banned it that's pretty crazy stuff that's a crazy headline and kind of adds to the story of Anthropic's brand on top of that the backlash got pretty loud so not everyone is impressed there's been like a split sort of response to all of this so the reaction is split into multiple different ones some people are saying this is a government panic and the government is reacting as you can see from the blue wave this is a tweet about it basically saying like this is sorry my video agent's popping up in the background um these are like coming up with different you know just overreacting basically that's the whole thing here of people saying this is gatekeeping intelligence that's another theory as well now of course you know if you look at China China are releasing open source models all the time and then you look at the US and they're shutting down models which is pretty crazy in itself so that's another one so just to recap you got the government in panic and then you got third counties tweeted about this is gatekeeping intelligence and then you know another camp is that we may never see something as powerful as Fable 5 again for the public like Fable 5 was a fantastic model very very powerful very useful indeed ran out of tokens quickly I'll tell you that but interesting anyway and cam3 is that we just lost it so we may never see a model with smarts that's a real possibility and the last one is pretty funny if you haven't seen this meme before I love it but basically you know you've got this this meme of um how it feels to use Opus now because obviously we can't access Fable 5 we can't access more powerful models but we know what it feels like to use that model and how great it is in terms of the outputs and now we've got to go back to to this that's kind of how it feels to use Opus pretty funny by a tensile there so where this goes next some people are saying speculating the ID verification will soon be required to access the best models this is a tweet from Peter Yang. Peter Yang does a lot of tutorials on AI and basically one suggestion is that this development could shape out in terms of once a model is restricted by nationality the next step will be proving who you are and so that's a deeper twist which is basically potentially you know we might have to ID verify before we can use certain models I don't know if it's gonna happen but it's speculation as well and that's what I mean by all this stuff like there's new stuff that comes out there's new ideas that form on top of this and there's so much more that goes on behind the background that we don't see when it comes to this but there's lots of interesting ideas around this you know so let's talk about this well there's a deeper twist here too which is you know Anthropic we're talking about this so Anthropic safety warnings may have just backfired because the government has pulled the plug on its most powerful AI bear in mind that Anthropic has spent two years warning everyone how dangerous and powerful AI is and this week those exact warnings were used as a reason to switch off its model but they publicly disagreed with the actual judgment of the government which is pretty interesting so the safety pitch kind of became like the reason they got shut down and this is the direction of the travel if you look at it what it's like okay powerful models they may be more gated in the future it's getting more political in terms of who can use them who can't and it's tied literally tied to who you are and where you live like the US government said okay this is not for foreign nationals which leads to the only question that matters for you right the ban itself so if you're just catching up on this 12th of June US government had Anthropic port clawed Miphos 5 and Fable 5 worldwide why because a rival lab demoed a jailbreak according to the wall street journal that's not being confirmed publicly but that's according to reports how fast has it happened well a letter at 5 21 p.m eastern time both models off the same night AWS revoked access in all regions and almost nobody day-to-day is impacted but honestly we were all I mean I was speaking to a friend earlier today he was building something awesome with Fable 5 can't do that can't do that now it's all been shut down so for me personally I honestly don't care about whether I can use Fable 5 or not because I have the agent operating system and if you're watching this you should have a system too which means you don't care which model comes out right and the whole week is the argument for this if you don't know the jailbreak the bar was pretty low it was only verbal evidence I don't think Claude has actually seen the report yet according to their reports the Kapafi would potentially be barred based on this as well you know you're going to probably see the Claude proxy industry you know explode it's a PR home run for anthropic either way and the lesson is like models come and go faster than ever and
