01What Is Hermes Agent Buzz?

Hermes agent buzz is the integration between Hermes agent and Buzz, an AI-powered Slack alternative. Buzz lets you have AI agents work directly in channels, DMs, and threads. With this integration, you can run Hermes agent inside Buzz and use all its memory, skills, and credentials.

In this episode, Julian shows how to set up Hermes agent with Buzz in three ways. You can use Buzz desktop, a relay bridge, or the native gateway. Each method has its own benefits.

The goal is to make it easy for anyone to use Hermes agent in a more intuitive chat interface.

02Three Ways to Connect Hermes to Buzz

Julian explains that there are three new ways to connect Hermes agent to Buzz. Each option gives you a different level of control and hosting.

  • Buzz desktop: Automatically discovers your Hermes install on your computer. It is the easiest start.
  • Relay bridge: Gives Hermes a hosted identity in your Buzz channels. Buzz owns the transport, while Hermes keeps its own config, memory, and skills.
  • Native gateway: A bundled Buzz platform plugin that makes Buzz available as a full external platform with channels, DMs, threads, reactions, and scheduled tasks.

You can choose the method that fits your technical level. If you are just testing, desktop is simple. For a permanent setup, the relay or gateway works better.

03How to Get Started with Buzz and Hermes

Before you connect, you need Buzz. You can download it from buzz.xyz. Then update Hermes to the latest version and make sure Hermes ACP is set up.

If you are not technical, you can ask Claude or another agent to help you.

  1. Download and install Buzz from buzz.xyz.
  2. Update Hermes to the latest version.
  3. Set up Hermes ACP. If needed, use an AI like Claude to do this for you.
  4. Open Buzz and go to your agents. If Hermes does not auto-discover, click “Add runtimes” in settings.
  5. Install the Hermes agent runtime.
  6. For a hosted identity, use the relay bridge and provide your community URL from the hosted community section.
  7. For the gateway, run “Hermes gateway setup” and select Buzz. Leave channel UUIDs empty to join all channels.
  8. Restart the gateway to apply the changes.

Julian notes that in his test, Hermes did not auto-discover at first. He had to add the runtime manually. So do not be surprised if that happens.

04Using Hermes Agent with Buzz Features

Once connected, you can use Hermes agent inside Buzz in several ways. In the settings, go to agent defaults and select Hermes agent. You can then choose which model to use.

You can switch the model to something like Ling 3.0, which is free. That way you can run Buzz with a free model instead of paying for one. Julian showed how to set this up.

You can also have Hermes agent control Buzz locally. Inside Hermes agent OS, you can ask it to send a test message in Buzz. Julian tried this and it worked, but the test message did not actually send.

Still, the control works.

Another feature is controlling Buzz from your phone. If you connect Hermes agent to Telegram or another messaging platform, you can use that to control Buzz remotely. That gives you all your keys, credentials, memory, and skills from Hermes, combined with Buzz's interface.

05Why Buzz Is Easier Than Hermes Alone

Some people wonder why they should use Buzz if they already have Hermes agent. Julian says Buzz is simply more intuitive and easier to use. It feels like Slack, so it is familiar.

With Buzz, you can invite humans too. You can also plug in Claude, Codex, or Hermes. That makes it a flexible team communication tool that works with AI agents.

The combination gives you the power of Hermes agent settings (like memory and skills) with the simplicity of a chat app. That is why many people choose to use both together.

06Tips and Limits for Hermes Buzz Setup

Here are some tips Julian shared to avoid common mistakes.

  • Always update Hermes first before trying to connect to Buzz. Otherwise, the integration may not work.
  • If auto-discovery fails, manually add the runtime from settings. It works.
  • When setting up the gateway, leave channel UUIDs empty to join all channels. That is the easiest way.
  • Use a free model like Ling 3.0 if you want to save money. It works just as well for many tasks.
  • If you are not technical, let Claude or another AI agent handle the setup for you.
  • Remember, the test message in the local control example did not actually send. So expect small hiccups when controlling Buzz from Hermes locally.

The integration is new, so some features may not be perfect yet. But the setup is straightforward if you follow the steps.

07Who Should Use Hermes Agent with Buzz

This setup is for anyone who wants a familiar chat interface to run AI agents. If you already use Slack, you will feel at home. If you are a beginner, Buzz makes it easier to manage agents without complex commands.

It is also great for teams. You can invite humans and agents into the same channels. That helps collaboration between people and AI.

Julian mentions a community called AI Profit Boarding where you can learn more. It has a master class on Buzz and lots of training on Hermes agent. You can join at aiprofitboarding.com.
