01What is Hermes Agent Claude MCP?
Hermes Agent Claude MCP is a free extension that connects Claude Desktop and Claude mobile apps to Hermes Agent. It lets Claude delegate tasks to Hermes Agent, so you can control and manage Hermes directly from Claude.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is a language that lets different AI tools talk to each other. Think of it as a phone call between Claude and Hermes.
Without MCP, they are in the same building but cannot hear each other. With MCP, they work together in real time.
Hermes MCP is an open-source bridge tool. It connects Claude to your local Hermes Agent. You talk to Claude as normal, and Claude can now do things through Hermes.
This means you get the power of Hermes Agent with your Claude subscription.
02Key Features of the Hermes MCP Setup
This setup gives you several powerful features. First, Claude can delegate tasks to Hermes Agent. You just ask Claude to use Hermes, and it sends the request.
- Permission controls: You can set approval levels. Always allow means Claude can use Hermes without asking. Needs approval means you must approve each action. Block means you stop access.
- Scheduling tasks: Claude can schedule tasks with Hermes Agent, like a cron job that runs at a set time.
- 24/7 operation: Hermes Agent can run tasks even when Claude is not open, as long as Hermes Desktop is running.
- Persistent memory: Hermes remembers context across conversations and builds reusable skills.
- Direct control: You can ask Claude what skills Hermes has and manage scheduled tasks right from Claude.
Another benefit is that you avoid API costs. You can use Hermes Agent with your Claude subscription instead of paying for API tokens.
03How to Set Up Hermes Agent Claude MCP
Setting this up is simple and takes about 15 minutes. Julian showed it live. He just pasted information from the GitHub page into Claude, and Claude set it up automatically.
- Go to the GitHub page for Hermes MCP and copy the setup details.
- Open Claude Desktop and start a new chat.
- Paste the details into Claude and ask it to set up the Hermes MCP.
- Follow any prompts from Claude to install and connect.
- Check your settings, go to Customize, and find Hermes MCP in your connectors.
- Set your permissions—like Needs approval—to keep it safe.
- Test it with a simple task like scheduling a hello message.
You do not need to code. You just need to type a sentence. Claude figures out the rest.
04Using Hermes Agent Through Claude
In the episode, Julian showed a few examples. First, he used the MCP to schedule a cron job that says hello at 8am. Claude routed the request to Hermes, and Hermes scheduled it.
The job persisted in the Hermes scheduler.
You can also ask Claude to list Hermes skills. Julian asked, "What skills does Hermes have access to?" and Claude showed categories and examples.
Another example was scheduling daily research on the latest AI automation news. Claude used the Hermes ask tool, gave the task a name, set the next run, and even created a new skill.
You can cancel all scheduled tasks from Claude too. This is handy for managing your automations in one place.
You can also use Claude to pull information from Hermes memory. Since Hermes remembers context, Claude can reference that to make better tasks.
05Results and Comparisons Shown
Julian showed that the whole bridge works. When he scheduled the test task, Hermes returned the job ID, name, schedule, next run time, and output. That confirmed the connection.
He compared this to using OpenClaude or OpenClaw with OAuth. Those options are not possible now because Claude stopped OAuth access without an API. The MCP gets around that.
He also compared the terminal UI of Hermes to controlling it through Claude Desktop. The terminal UI is not as nice. Claude Desktop offers a beautiful interface.
Julian tested different local models. He mentioned using Gemma 4 with Hermes for a fully local setup. It is less powerful than Claude but works offline and free.
06Tips, Limits, and Mistakes to Avoid
Here are some tips from the episode. First, always set permissions to Needs approval if you share access. If the wrong person gets control of your Hermes Agent, they could misuse it.
- Keep Hermes Desktop open: Scheduled tasks will not run if Hermes Desktop is closed.
- Mind your Claude plan: Using tokens beyond your plan will cost extra. Use Hermes for unlimited tasks to save credits.
- Start small: You do not need months. A focused 60 minutes can finish the setup and first task.
- Do not rely on OAuth: The MCP is the way to go now.
- Learn the skill: Tools change, but delegating to AI is a permanent skill.
Also, remember that local models are not as powerful as Claude. Use them only if you need offline or free operation.
07Who Should Use Hermes Agent Claude MCP?
This setup is for anyone who uses Claude and wants to do more with AI. Julian calls it the Goldie delegation loop. It is a new way to think about AI automation.
It is useful for full-stack marketing agencies, SEO pros, and business owners. You can automate competitor monitoring, content gap analysis, outreach, and client reporting.
For example, Hermes can track prospects who have not replied and queue follow-ups. Claude can write briefs, and Hermes saves them and flags the project manager in Slack.
You can also generate ad copy variations, track competitor ads, and create social media briefs. All of this runs without human hours.
Even if you are not technical, you can use this. If you can type a sentence, you can delegate tasks to AI. This is the future of work.
08How to Get More Ideas and Help
Julian offers more resources inside the AI Profit Boarding community. It includes a guide with 100 prompts, a 30-day roadmap, and step-by-step procedures.
For marketing agency examples, he said he would add them to the guide. The community also has daily videos, coaching calls, and a map to connect with local members.
If you want to run local models, there are guides on using Gemma 4 with Hermes and LM Studio with Hermes. These are in the new daily update section.
For a full memory setup, Julian recommends OMI and Obsidian. OMI records your screen and conversations, creates notes and tasks, and exports them to Obsidian. This gives Claude and Hermes rich context for personalized automations.
You can join at AIProfitBoarding.com to get access to all these trainings and a supportive community.
