Hermes Agent Overtakes OpenClaw on OpenRouter: Why It’s Winning (and What to Do Next)The video explains how Hermes Agent became the #1 AI agent on OpenRouter, surpassing OpenClaw with 271B tokens versus 245B, despite launching in February 2026 and still being in early beta. The host attributes Hermes’ rise to reliability and ease of use, contrasting it with OpenClaw’s frequent updates that reportedly make it worse, including broken workflows, confusing UI behavior, login issues, and errors like missing API keys even when using OAuth. Live terminal demos show Hermes switching models smoothly while OpenClaw struggles to run and respond. The discussion also touches on perceived safety, community momentum (nearly 1,000 contributors and 140K GitHub stars), business automation use cases like SEO/content workflows, and a recommended GUI option, Hermes Workspace, while predicting Hermes’ growth will continue unless OpenClaw becomes stable.00:00 Hermes Hits Number One01:03 OpenRouter Charts Breakdown02:25 Why OpenClaw Is Slipping05:02 Live Demo OpenClaw Fails06:33 Hermes Just Works Demo08:41 Feature Creep vs Reliability09:41 Business Automation Results11:50 Community Moat and Momentum13:45 Best Hermes Dashboard14:22 Wrap Up and Training Offer

Hermes agent just hit number one on open router overtaking open claw with 271 billion tokens. It is number one globally across every single AI app on the platform. An open router is where hundreds of thousands of people root their AI tools every single day. So this isn't some small stat, this is the scoreboard that everyone watches.
Now here's what makes this wild. Hermes only launched in February 2026. OpenClaw has been out since late 2025 and had a massive head start and Hermes just walked straight past it. Technium, the co-founder of Hermes agent, posted about it today.
Nearly 1,000 contributors helped build this thing, 140,000 GitHub stars, and they're saying this is just the beginning. So in this video, I'm going to show you what exactly happened, why Hermes is winning, what makes Hermes agent different, what this means for you, and what to do if you're still using OpenClaw right now because the answer might surprise you. Let's get into it. Hermes agent destroys OpenClaw.
So there is a huge announcement today as Hermes agent has become the most popular AI agent in the world and you can see that it's being used more than OpenClaw at this point. Now bear in mind like Hermes is not even on version 1.0 yet, it's very early in the beta versions and also one thing to note here is that it is completely overtaken OpenClaw, which is almost unheard of. So you can compare them side by side here and you can see Hermes agent and you can see OpenClaw and this is on OpenRouter. So one thing to know about OpenRouter is like this is where people go to get APIs and then they share them across all their tools and what you can see here is that Hermes has very subtly overtaken OpenClaw on pretty much all the charts right.
Top coding agent, top productivity agent, on every single chart you know global rankings look at this global rankings Hermes is being used on 270 billion tokens whereas for example OpenClaw is used on 245. So it is literally overtaken OpenClaw. This is something I've been talking about for weeks in terms of like how powerful Hermes agent is, you know how great it is as a tool. I'll cover some of the reasons why this is in this video today but it is interesting to see this.
I mean for example we look at the trajectory here and we compare them side by side right. So this is OpenClaw OpenRouter usage and there's a clear correlation here which is pretty interesting which is that the more OpenClaw develops and the more it brings out updates you know it's been bringing out updates every single day. I cover every single update that OpenClaw does. The more they bring out updates the worse the tool seems to get and this is pretty crazy because basically what this means is like instead of improving the tool a lot of these updates have made it worse and worse and worse and you know I'll show you some examples in action in a second but something to note here is that like basically OpenClaw is broken.
It's very very difficult to use, it breaks all the time, quite often you update and either it doesn't work or you spend like 30 minutes fixing it and it is very very messy right now right whereas for example we have a look at Hermes agent you can see the trajectory over time and this is increasing in demand. I mean look at where it was at the start of the month look at where it is right now right the same for OpenClaw look at where it was at the start of the month so it was way up it was near 450 billion tokens at one point right that's how many people are using it and now that's dropped all the way down to this amount right so you can see there's a clear difference in the trajectory now something that's interesting to note here is that Hermes agent has only been active since March 2026 whereas for example OpenClaw has only has been active uh since January 2026 so this is something really interesting you know they've basically totally overtaken it I know I'll show you some live examples in a second let's have a look at what we got in the comments here if you've got questions as you go along like feel free to ask and that sort of thing so let's see what we got here uh Marcus says hi would you say that Hermes is safer to use than OpenClaw? I definitely haven't heard of any problems with Hermes right like I mean it's only as powerful as the tools you give it anyway the tools that you give access to in the APIs you give access to but OpenClaw I've heard a lot worse stories than Hermes I've never really heard of any bad situations and I do notice like in a lot of the updates that come out from Hermes like they're very focused on on security they're very focused on making sure it's like it's really um useful safe tool so yeah I mean like would I I like for me I've never had any problems with either of them on that front but would I trust Hermes more for sure for sure yeah who else we got here Dev says what's up good to see you and let's have a look at some real life examples all right so we'll pull up the terminal here I don't I don't know what's going to happen genuinely I don't know what's going to happen but let's try this out so if we try and open up OpenClaw right and we start running this now let's see what happens if it actually works all right so we've opened it up inside the terminal says everything everything is working blah blah blah all right now you see how it doesn't actually give you a local url to get to in the first place it's actually just pretty difficult to to navigate to right you literally have to type it in yourself which is 127 and then you go over here now when you're actually using this like for example for me I've configured it with GPT 5.5 right and bear in mind like Peter Steinberger from OpenAI he's working with uh sorry Peter Steinberger who created OpenClaw he's working with OpenAI now a GPT 5.5 should work really smoothly you know we've got Codex running locally um super powerful tool great when I use the Codex app directly but if we go inside here you can see that the agent has failed it's totally failed you're like how or why what am I supposed to do and if you have a look at the error that it gives here it's like no API key found but this is OAuth so it shouldn't be using the API right that's that's the whole point here so even with the tools that they've collaborated with for example like OpenAI, OpenClaw doesn't work now let's try updating here so we've got the update button and I just want to show you like some of the current issues that we're facing with OpenClaw so I'm going to click on update here and see what we get so it seems to be updating let's have a look in a second in the meantime let me show you how smooth it is to run Hermes so if we type in Hermes here it just open it just works it just works you know I mean and then for example we want to switch the models inside for example Hermes we can do that like so like it's just really easy and smooth to use right so we can switch to GPT 5.5 whatever right if I want to switch again let's do that so model you just do forward slash model and then we're going to switch to open our codecs and then we'll just switch to like GPT 5.4 just to make things easy right so you can see how easy it is to switch models here if you have a look inside for example OpenClaw number one the actual API key plugin don't work right and then also when we're updating I don't really know what's going on here right like the update might have broken it might not be working I don't really understand what it's actually doing here you know and it's quite difficult to use something like OpenClaw even for someone like me who uses this stuff every day it's quite difficult to navigate and understand what's going on like is this going to work in two minutes where we up to you know there should be like a progress bar on it and now it's just logged me out and you're like well why you know like this doesn't make sense so then we come back in and we're like okay well what's happened have you updated there's no notification it doesn't really tell you what's going on and so you get the point like it's it's really difficult to understand what's going on now if we go inside OpenClaw and we say working and we'll just test this out it's number one it's pretty slow to respond as well and this is coming from someone who wants OpenClaw to be good like I loved OpenClaw when it first came out you know like if they just rolled it back to where it was when it first came out in January or February probably a lot more people would use it again because it's just such a powerful tool and also one of the other things and I'll come on to this in a second if we go over to the releases here inside I mean look at this what is going on here like is it working is it not working um and I can't even scroll up now like literally look at this like I can't scroll up I don't know what's going on inside OpenClaw and the gateway uh it says it's online but it hasn't responded to my message it's just so difficult to use so difficult to even understand what's going on here now one of the things I would say here is like if you look at all the releases that came out from OpenClaw like they're coming out every single day right they're being released every single day and there were like some quite flashy updates for example like Google Meet integration stuff like that but really they didn't need that and I think they're adding like too many features that don't actually help people you know I don't know anyone who's using OpenClaw with Google Meet simply because they can't rely on it right like if the gateway doesn't work when I first started up then why are we why are we adding more features to it you know I mean and I do have a lot of respect for the open source community and what they're doing with OpenClaw so it is amazing what they've built but I can understand why Hermes is overtaking it because Hermes just works like it literally just works every time you use it and let's go in inside Hermes here for example we'll just say test every single day that's what we're talking about OpenClaw but Hermes is beast yes and the best see Hermes just works man just works even when we switch API it's no problem whereas for example OpenClaw it's not even responded to me let's see what else we got in Nazia says as an SEO professional I'm exploring OpenClaw for automating and has anyone used it here to find yeah we actually have a lot of training on that inside the aircraft reporting but basically the way that I would do that is like really what you can do is you can you can set up Hermes to to essentially like create a lot of content for you whether that's on on X or any other social media platform get your attention and that's what brings in clients that's the way that I would look at it you know and that's what we do with our AI agents for example like we actually use Hermes a lot for AI SEO let me show you some examples of like the analytics and what results we're getting with this like you can see this website right here here's another one that's growing this is another website that's growing since we started using Hermes and if we just pull up this example as well let's have a look here yeah look at the growth for that website too right and this source is using Hermes and also the funny thing is that I actually originally started using that same workflow with OpenClaw but OpenClaw it broke on me way too much to the point where I just like I couldn't rely on it doing scheduled tasks it was like good for a day good for a couple of days and then boom it stops working and the people that I know that are getting like the most out of OpenClaw right now are not updating to latest versions like they're just not using it they're just they're sticking to like 4.29 or 4.2 or you know the the OpenClaw releases from a while back so that's why I think like you just you can't rely on OpenClaw right like there's no most of the people using OpenClaw were people who were really interested in using it for business business automation that sort of thing and so you can't run a business on a on a tool that's super temperamental and so that's one of the biggest things I see with this Dev says bro this is crazy I would agree there we go so Marcus says Hermes makes a 2000 word amazing blog for me every day in just one prompt there you go that's how reliable it's just super smooth and easy to use what do you think of Jarvis Jarvis is pretty good but honestly Hermes is my favorite Gabrielle says hey Julian keep it up good man I appreciate your time and service thank you very much sir I appreciate that too thanks for joining so there we go so that's I think these are the main reasons that basically Hermes has overtaken OpenClaw you know I think that also what didn't help is a lot of people using OpenClaw with Claude so as soon as Claude released their own sort of features and co-work with scheduled tasks and everything else and as soon as everyone else started releasing the same features that OpenClaw had it kind of lost its moat right whereas you look at for example Hermes and News4Research they're always adding like these these powerful tools that actually work which is pretty cool so I hope I mean maybe in one day you know Hermes will release an update and then it'll be super buggy as well right that could easily happen but it's really interesting tonight you can see them celebrating it today and also the other thing that I would say here is like the community and the team of both News4Research and the co-founder Technium on X like if you just check out what they're posting every day and how they connect with their community it's amazing like they're just they're just like they've always got really good vibes and always super positive always like sharing other people's projects that have been created inside the community I've seen them share a few of my videos as well um so I'm super grateful for that but like the main point here is like they're they're bringing out some awesome stuff and they're they're helping the community and they're sharing what's working and everything else right um same for News4Research if you check out their profile on X they've got a great vibe they're sharing lots of cool stuff they're working well with the community um I think you look at both of them and you think okay which community would I rather be involved with right now and for me I also like the new features are always coming out from News4Research as well bear in mind like News4Research what they kind of have an advantage on an open core because they're already built by an AI lab right like Open Router and News4Research essentially News4Research is an AI lab that's developed their own APIs and that sort of thing and so that's what I would look at um let's see what we've got here what's the best Jarvis-esque dashboard or visual GUI for Hermes the one that I like the most is Hermes Workspace Hermes Workspace is pretty nice you can see it right here you can get it on github it's uh open source I've got a few videos on it as well it comes with like swarm mode and all sorts of cool stuff super nice dashboard and they just implemented a new feature where it's uh you can actually play a game on there as well which is pretty cool with your AI agents kind of like 3d real world game it's crazy stuff what do you think of my concept what is your concept sir need to expand my feng shui agent there we go yeah you can use it for anything so yeah that's what I've noticed so thanks so much for watching I think that is why Hermes agent has overtaken OpenCore I really expect that trajectory to continue until OpenCore does improve and does become more stable if it ever does you know maybe it's one of those projects where people just stop using it they could that could happen right like eventually um things like that can happen really quickly to be honest so let's see so thanks so much for watching if you want more trainings on Hermes agent how to use it etc you can get that all inside the AI profit boardroom we have a complete beginner to expert AI automation course we have all my best trainings on Hermes we cover Hermes a lot because that's what the people want to see so we do a lot of tutorials step-by-step guides 30-day roadmaps etc with video tutorials on Hermes agent inside the community you can ask questions get help and support in real time etc you can connect with me personally inside there you get four weekly coaching calls you can also connect with people in your local city as well um but yeah that's what I would say I would say you know Hermes is is far overtaking OpenCore and you can expect that trajectory to continue so thanks for watching hope to see you inside the AIprofitboardroom.com
