01What Is Hermes Cloud Agent OS?

Hermes Cloud Agent OS is a way to run Hermes Agent with cloud-based models inside an agentic operating system. It lets you build and automate anything without running models locally on your computer. In this episode, Julian Goldie showed how to set this up and use it.

The system works by using Hermes Cloud as the brain for your Agent OS. You create a separate profile with the cloud brain plugged in. This means your agent runs in the cloud, not on your local machine.

It is designed for this purpose, so it is more productive than using a regular VM.

02Key Benefits of Using Hermes Cloud

Julian listed five main reasons to use Hermes Cloud with your Agent OS. These benefits make it a strong choice for automation.

  • One-click deploy: It is quick and simple to get started.
  • Runs 24/7: Your agent works even while you sleep.
  • Plug into every channel: Connect to all supported channels easily.
  • Persistent memory: The agent remembers information over time.
  • Isolated sandbox: Fully isolated in the cloud, so if your agent goes out of control, it stays contained.

These benefits show why cloud-based setup is often better than local running for many users.

03How to Set Up Hermes Cloud with Agent OS

Setting up Hermes Cloud with your Agent OS is simple. Julian used ChatGPT to help configure it, and you can do the same. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your favorite AI agent (like ChatGPT).
  2. Ask it to make sure Hermes Cloud is working inside your Agent OS as a separate profile.
  3. Test the setup by sending a message like "Are you working right now?"
  4. If it doesn't work, go back and forth with the agent until it fixes and configures it.
  5. Ensure you use a Hermes Cloud model, and ask for a list of models if needed.
  6. Confirm the agent replies correctly and is fully functional.

This process took about five seconds for Julian, and it's the easiest way to connect.

04Using Free Models with Hermes Cloud

Hermes Cloud lets you use free models, which is a big advantage. Julian showed the top trending free models available. These include Solar Pro 4, Longcat, and Poolside Laguna S2.1.

Out of all models on Hermes, the top three are free.

If one model gets taken down or removed, you can switch to another easily. For example, if Solar Pro 4 is removed, you can switch to Longcat. You can set up a separate cloud profile for each model, giving you flexibility.

You don't need a separate API for Hermes Cloud. Just sign into your account and switch models freely.

05Connecting Hermes Cloud to Custom Workflows

One of the best parts of using Hermes Cloud with your Agent OS is that you can use all custom workflows. Julian showed several examples.

  • Hermes Oracle: Looks at trending news and gives you a breakdown.
  • Hermes Muse: Provides content ideas.
  • Hermes Astros: Analyzes competitors and suggests content based on trends.

These workflows are directly integrated. You can also connect Hermes Cloud to your phone or any channel that Hermes supports. This makes it versatile for building and automating anything.

06Alternative: Using Tailscale for Remote Access

There is an alternative option using Tailscale. Tailscale gives you remote access to your AI agent. If you have an agent on your phone or your Agent OS set up in the cloud, you can connect Tailscale to it.

Julian recommends option one (Hermes Cloud) first, but Tailscale is a valid backup. It takes about 10 minutes to set up and is free on the personal plan. It connects your Agent OS to your phone, other providers, and other devices.

However, Hermes Cloud is designed for this purpose, so it is more productive and easier. Choose based on your preference.

07Tips, Limits, and Mistakes to Avoid

Julian shared important tips in this episode. First, don't use Google Cloud VM with this system. Hermes Cloud has its own system that is more productive.

Second, always test your setup, because things can fail initially. Julian tested and it didn't work the first time, so he went back and forth with the agent until it fixed it.

Also, remember that free models can be taken down, so be ready to switch. Keep a separate profile for each model so you can change quickly. Finally, don't forget that Hermes Cloud is fully isolated, so you don't have to worry about it running wild locally.

08Who Should Use Hermes Cloud Agent OS?

This setup is for anyone who wants to build and automate tasks with AI agents, especially if you don't want to run models locally. It's useful for business owners, content creators, and developers who need a 24/7 agent with persistent memory.

Julian made this tutorial for a community member named Nathan, who had a VM with Google Cloud. Many people likely have the same question. Using Hermes Cloud simplifies everything, saving time and effort.

If you want the full system, you can join the AI Profit Boardroom at theaiprofitboardroom.com, which includes Paperclip for managing agents, Idea Factory for building, and more. The community has over 3,500 members.
