01What is NemoClaw?

NemoClaw is NVIDIA's secure wrapper around the OpenClaw AI agent. It adds enterprise-grade safety to OpenClaw's powerful automation. You install everything with one command, and your agent runs in a sandboxed environment.

OpenClaw is an AI agent that reads files, writes code, browses the web, and sends emails. But it had no security layer. NemoClaw fixes that by wrapping OpenClaw with guardrails.

It restricts what the agent can do, so it can't harm your system or leak data.

02Key Features of NemoClaw

NemoClaw comes with three main components. First, the Nematron 3 Super model, which is the brain. Second, OpenShell, a security runtime.

Third, a sandboxed environment where the agent lives.

  • Sandboxing: Each agent runs in its own box, like a browser tab. If attacked, it can't touch other tabs or files.
  • Restricted access: File and network connections are limited. The agent can only reach approved websites.
  • Runtime credential injection: API keys and passwords are never stored in the sandbox. They are injected at runtime, so even a compromised agent can't steal them.
  • Reasoning modes: The model has three modes: off, low effort, and regular. It adjusts compute per task, so simple tasks don't overthink.

03How to Set Up NemoClaw

Setting up NemoClaw is straightforward. You need a Linux system for the cleanest experience. Windows and Mac have limited support.

  1. Open a terminal on your Linux machine.
  2. Run the one-line install command provided by NVIDIA. This installs everything at once.
  3. NemoClaw sets up the Nematron 3 Super model, OpenShell, and the sandbox environment.
  4. Start your agent inside the sandbox. It will ask for permission before doing anything outside its approved list.
  5. Configure your agent's rules, like which websites it can access and which files it can read.

04How to Use NemoClaw in Practice

Once installed, you interact with your agent like you would with OpenClaw. You tell it what you want done, and it does it. The difference is NemoClaw's safety layer.

For example, you can ask it to write code, send emails, or browse the web. But it will only do these things if you allow them. If the agent tries to reach an unapproved website, it blocks the request and asks you first.

The Nematron 3 Super model handles long tasks well. Its 1 million token context window means it can hold an entire codebase or a year of meeting notes without losing track. It won't drift from your original request.

You can also use the reasoning modes. For simple file operations, set reasoning to off. For complex project scaffolding, use full reasoning.

The model adjusts automatically.

05Benchmarks and Performance Results

NVIDIA's Nematron 3 Super model delivers impressive results. On Pinch Bench, a benchmark for AI agents, it scores at the top. It beats Claude Opus 4.6 and GPT-5.4.

In tests by the Kilo team, the model hit 85.6% on its best single run. The three-run average was 84%. That consistency is crucial for production agents.

On the report compilation test, it scored 100% across multiple runs. It was perfect every time. Speed-wise, it achieves 2.2x higher throughput than GPT-OSS 120B and 7.5x higher than QUEN 3.5 122B.

With 120 billion parameters, only 12 billion are active at any moment. This design keeps it fast while retaining vast knowledge, similar to having specialists on call.

06Limitations and Mistakes to Avoid

NemoClaw is an early alpha, not production-ready. It runs cleanly on Linux only. Windows has experimental support with GPU issues, and Mac has partial support with no local inference.

  • Docker conflicts: You may run into Docker issues. Make sure Docker is configured correctly.
  • Memory problems: The model is large, so ensure you have enough RAM.
  • SATA issues: Some users report SATA-related problems. Check your hardware.
  • Model lock-in: It currently defaults to Nematron models. Other models aren't fully supported yet.

Governance and cross-system reasoning are still works in progress. Don't expect it to solve every enterprise concern. Also, NVIDIA is not purely altruistic; they're building an ecosystem that drives GPU sales.

07Who Should Use NemoClaw

NemoClaw is for developers, businesses, and anyone who wants to use AI agents safely. It's especially useful for enterprises that couldn't adopt OpenClaw due to security risks.

If you're a business owner, you don't need to install it yourself. Your project management, CRM, and email tools will likely integrate NemoClaw in the next 6 to 12 months. Understanding it now gives you an edge.

AI agents are becoming infrastructure, like electricity or the internet. Early adopters gain a compounding advantage. The window is open, but not forever.

08The Future of NemoClaw and Sovereign AI

NVIDIA is investing $26 billion over five years to open-source AI. They're building a coalition of eight companies to co-develop open frontier models. The first project is with Mistral AI.

The Nematron 3 model line includes Nano (4B parameters), Super (120B), and Ultra (500B upcoming). Ultra is expected to be the best model in the business.

Jensen Huang calls this the operating system for personal AI, comparable to Windows. It enables sovereign AI, where you own the model and your data never leaves your hardware. This is the beginning, not the peak.
