New Hermes Agent Pet Update!

We have a new member of the squadron, my friends. Hermes Agent have added a pet. I'm going to show you how to set up, what it's used for, what it means, and how to use the Hermes Agent sidekick system. So let's get straight into this.

Your agent now has an animated pixel pet that reacts to everything it does. Resting, thinking, done, or stuck. So you can read its status in a single glance. This was a brand new update that just dropped a few hours ago.

And so your Hermes Agent can now adopt an animated pet. This is a small sprite that reacts to what the agent is doing. Idle, running a tool, thinking, waiting, finishing, or failing in the GUI or TUI, or in your agent operating system. Like you can see, we have added right here.

And you actually have nearly 3,000 pets to choose from via the pet decks gallery, or you can actually submit your own, which is pretty cool. So how does this work? Well, basically, you have your agent working away. The sidekick changes the pose to match.

And in just one glance, you know exactly what's going on. So once your agent works, the sidekick changes pose to match, and you read its status in one glance. Kind of like easy to figure out, okay, where is your agent up to? What is it doing right now?

So for example, if we choose this pet, and I'll show you how to set it up in a second, you have the same pet, but five faces, and one for whatever your agent is doing. This is the magic. The pet isn't decoration, it's a status light with a personality. As your agent moves through work, the pet swaps pose to match.

So you stop reading spinners and log lines. You just look at the little guy and go, right, he's doing this, he's doing that. These are the five real poses straight from my dashboard. So you can see that we have the pet set up over there, and you can see we've got idle, we've got thinking, done, failed, waiting, and each one of these changes.

So for example, when it's failed, you can see it crying right there. You might also say, like, what is the actual point of this? So the point is peripheral awareness. You don't watch your agent every second, but you can just glance over whilst doing something else.

So a spinner tells you nothing, like for example, if he's just working inside the terminal, but a pet sort of waves when it's done or cries when it failed, tells you the one thing you needed without reading a word. So it's just kind of like an easy way to figure out, okay, where's your agent up to? Now, how can you set this up? There's three ways.

You can use a command line, you can use a desktop, and we've got an agent operating system dashboard set this up as well. So you can have one pet, same agent, same step, and then you just look and glance whenever you're working. You might also say, does this work outside of Hermes' own apps? So the pet ships with Hermes in the command line and the TUI in the desktop app.

They're all built in. We actually added it inside the agent operating system dashboard as well. It took a little bit of wiring, but if you run it the normal way, it just appears you don't need to wire in. We've done that for you.

So let me show you an example. If we say, okay, what are you doing? It's now going to start thinking and it changes his pose. That's how easy it is to use.

Now you might be wondering, okay, how do you actually do this? Let me show you an example outside of thinking. So what you can do is you can run Hermes updates. You need to get the latest version of Hermes as it's just dropped.

Once you've done that, you've got the pet engine. Then you can actually browse the gallery. So if you run inside your terminal, Hermes pets list, as you can see right here. So if we do Hermes pets list, you can see all of the different types of characters that we can pull in.

Then you can install whichever one you want. So for example, if you wanted to install Boba, you would do Hermes pets, install Boba, select. And you can see once that's done, by the way, it's got the response right here. So once it's idle, we get idle back.

Then you can watch it react. So you open a chat with your agent, the pet sits in the corner, changes poses as the agent works. And then you can also make it yours. So you can actually resize it with Hermes pet scale.

You can swap pets at any time, or you can turn it off with Hermes pets off. Nothing is permanent. You can just switch it around and change it however you want. So the way this works is just a sprite.

So you can't touch your code, your files, your agents work, et cetera. You get nearly 3000 pets to choose from, including otters, dragons, cats, robots, characters. And you can search the pet decks for your favorite. And it's one command to undo.

So if you just type in Hermes pets off, it will remove it instantly if it's not for you. And it comes free with Hermes in the installation. Again, you might say this is a pointless gimmick. It's just like a status light that you actually look at it, right?

So when you look at the terminal, you don't really know what's going on, but this is a better way to see what's happening. Also, you might say, well, anything on screen that moves will distract me, but it's pretty quiet as you can see right here. Other people say, well, little touches like this don't matter. I don't know if I would use it all the time, honestly, but the tool you enjoy opening is the tool that you actually use every day.

So making your agent feel alive isn't really like a fluffy, nice add-on. It's kind of what turns you into someone from just using agents to someone who customizes and makes the agents feel like it's their own. In the same way that, for example, we've got a Hermes Oracle, and it's just sitting there ready to go and we can see what it's doing. Like if we consult the Oracle, it will actually change color and it will totally change its state depending on what it's doing.

So it's pretty useful for just seeing, okay, where are we up to with this current setting? And there's so many to choose from, as you can see right here. So once you've picked one, you can just change the settings anytime you want to. So that's basically it.

What did you actually learn today? How to check your status on Hermes in like one single glance. The pose matches work. Idle thinking, done, failed waiting.

You stop watching the terminal and you don't need to tap back to read a spinner that says nothing. You don't miss a failure because the crying pose flags a broken round from across the room, an agent that's yours so you can pick from 3,000 pets. And the tool you enjoy is the one you use the most, right? And then it's free.
