So today I'm going to be testing out Hermes desktop which is a new free desktop app we can use with our Hermes AI agents. So we're going to start testing this out seeing how it performs and basically what this means is like it's going to be a lot easier and simpler to manage your AI agent plus it's a free setup. You can see some examples of how it looks here so you've got like for example this office setup with your AI agents you can chat with it kind of like chat GPT and switch between providers pretty quickly. You can select your profile so you can manage multiple Hermes agents in one place like have a team of them kind of similar to paperclip and then you've also got these different tools that you can add to.
So for example like browser, web search, you got terminal, CLI etc right text to speech as well. So let's test this out and see how it performs. Just going to make sure we have the prerequisites set up first and what I'm actually going to do I think just to make this even easier is I'm going to go into Hermes and get this to set up for us. You can see it's beginning to work its magic right there.
So if you're wondering why would you use a desktop app for Hermes? Well number one it can connect to all your messaging platforms pretty quickly and easily. Number two you can add tools really easily too and you can switch between LLM providers right so you can see for example you can actually set up news portal with this. You can add all the main ones too and one of the biggest benefits here is you can actually add local and custom endpoints pretty quickly as well.
So if you're hosting local models if you want to run AI for free if you've got a good setup that might be a decent option. Plus we can get Hermes to set up directly for us so you can see it's beginning to set up here so you know I don't even need to be technical to set this up and then we've got different options so we've got the chat, we've got sessions, we've got agents, skills, models, memory, everything that we need to manage inside one place is pretty easy and simple and now it's set up right so you can see it's set up the test it's running it etc and now it just needs us to set this up right here. So I'm just going to run this command it gives you different options depending on what you're on so I'm on a Mac I'm going to set this up now let's try that. If you have any errors I would just paste it back into Hermes and just say can you set this up for me.
I see you have browser use in your bookmarks are you using built-in Hermes agent browsing or something else? For Hermes specifically I'm using the built-in and then I've set up browser base and also is there something like Google Antigravity but open source? Yeah there's a ton of AI coders you know a ton of IDs and stuff like that that you can run that are open source if you check out GitHub. What is a web UI?
So Hermes web UI is designed to help people just speak inside the chat with Hermes right in a nice UI right it's basically a nice UI where you can chat and interact and manage your agents. Elias says I'm curious how Hermes compares to OpenClaw and also CloudCode. So I want to just set this up here so when you're using CloudCode right and look we've got the Hermes agent set up here so when you're using CloudCode is we're just going to run that let's try this now there we go all right so we just need to select this so when you're running CloudCode it's a lot easier and less technical to set up right whereas for example if you're using something like Hermes it's more technical it's going to break sometimes but you get more customization so that's the biggest trade-off and also you know with Hermes like you can switch between models really easily and you get these all these awesome open source projects because the community is building together whereas for example if you're using CloudCode that that community doesn't really exist in the same way right because it's not an open source project and then when it comes to OpenClaw I've just found OpenClaw is way buggier and way less reliable than Hermes right Hermes is a lot smoother to use so that's the difference between them all right so we should be able to chat with this now let's just check our profile so you can see it's synced over here we've got a different profile so we can switch between some and you can select okay I want to use that one I want to use this one right and these are all isolated different profiles for managing Hermes we've also got the office here so we can actually install this it's called Claw3D and what that means is basically we can see our AI agents inside the office right so I'm just installing that now that was pretty simple and easy if we need to change our settings just going to do that and also here's something that's interesting so if you go to the settings inside Hermes of the app all you can see over here is that you can actually migrate to Hermes so if you have an OpenClaw installation this is already included inside the onboarding but I know some people struggle with it so it's useful to say now you can select migrate to Hermes and if you migrate to Hermes that will take all of your OpenClaw setup and then put it in Hermes for you which is pretty cool you can switch between the different appearance here as you can see and then you can switch between local or remote mode right so if you have remote mode basically you can connect to a Hermes that's in the cloud whereas we can switch to local over here we can see what version of Hermes you're on so we're on v0.11 that gives us the details in the settings then we can manage our APIs over here we can also this is really good as well so you can export and import your setup directly so you know some people what happens is they update or change something in the Hermes and then it breaks right and I've seen the same thing with OpenClaw so with this you can just switch and export and then import if you need to reconnect again to the older version you can also select your browser base API here so you can set up browser and cloud-based browser automation which is pretty and there's a bunch of other tools you can add to right so for example you can connect to foul you can connect to honcho you see I've got a firecrawl setup right these are pretty nice too now over here we've got the gateway so you can manage all of your gateways over here which is great this just makes it much easier to manage your gateway so you can for example like connect to telegram or discord and if we switch that on for example we just add the details right there right and we can edit that we can organize it that is going to be much easier to organize it I mean like email as well you can connect your AI agents to email which is super useful so you can connect and change all your settings over here which makes it far easier to organize bear in mind like if you were trying to do this inside the web UI or inside terminal UI like if we go over here we're like right okay Hermes let's open that up look how much more difficult it's going to be to manage my settings inside the terminal than it is inside here now if you're a developer like you're going to be awesome with terminal UI you might not even need this but for me and for non-technical people which is 99% of people this might be a better setup right is it free yes so Hermes desktop app is free have you been able to resolve long-term workflows without having to get off task yes so for example open core have a good solution for this which is steer mode right so you can steer the AI agent back in the direction you want to so if you ever find your agents again off track that's a good alternative and a good solution now you can see we've got all these different schedule tasks right here so we can manage those inside the schedules we've got all the tools running too right so for example we've got text to speech we've got skills we've got memory session search etc we can set up all these so what this means is like you can just add more tools to your AI agent so that is easier to manage and so it's more powerful too inside the memory section here you can switch between memories so you got providers um so for example I've got honcho plugged in over there right honcho is a good memory alternative then you got your user profile and your agent memory too right on here you've got your persona so here you can actually edit your persona and the personality of Hermes then you've got skills so these are all different skills that you can set up and edit right so these are installed and then you can also browse between all these other skills that we could set up as well right so these are the installed ones and then if we want to add more we've got loads of different skills that we can add to this too which is pretty cool we can switch between models inside the model section we have the office setup and we just need to change this setup so let's just set that up now see if it works and then we have the profiles so we can manage between these right so if it's like I want to speak to this version of Hermes well then we select it right well okay I want to switch back to the default okay select it there right then you can see all your sessions now this is pretty cool because I know a lot of people are requesting this which is like how do I see all of my different sessions across multiple channels right so you can see for example I've got telegram over here we have the CLI then we have the server so that's actually webui and so I can see across every single channel all the previous messages that I've had with my AI agent which is great and then if we go to the chat finally we can start using AI agents right now we can switch between model providers over here depending on what you've got configured and let's just check this works someone asked is Opus too much for Hermes I would say it's gonna you know like the with the API cost it's gonna get expensive right and you can see it's connected beautifully right it's working right there so that's pretty simple and easy so we can speak to Hermes directly inside the chat really nice setup here can you tell us what is the main difference between Hermes and OpenClaw so again like OpenClaw is so Hermes like OpenClaw is a lot more difficult to manage because it's way buggier right and they've got all these new updates coming out all the time it it bugs out it's less reliable um it's it's not gonna work for you every time right I've never heard anyone say oh OpenClaw works for me every single time it there's a lot of problems with OpenClaw right like it breaks a lot and if you actually look at the trajectory of Hermes versus OpenClaw and OpenRouter like it's pretty crazy right let me show you an example so if we go to models over here and then we go to apps on OpenRouter to OpenClaw and then we have Hermes right two of the most popular apps in the world for using OpenRouter now you can see actually Hermes agent is trending but in terms of like the top productivity agents OpenClaw is still beating Hermes right you can see here so if we have a look at the demand for OpenClaw you can see that every time they release something new it breaks and then less people use it right like that's what I've seen over time so this is the last 30 days and the usage of OpenClaw now if you compare that directly to Hermes look at the trajectory here totally different chart right and so you can see that Hermes is growing in popularity it's becoming more popular people like it more right and so OpenClaw is less reliable and I think what we're seeing is basically a situation where less and less people use OpenClaw because of the new updates and because of how buggy it is and more and more people are using Hermes because of how smooth and easy it is to use so that's the biggest differences between them but yeah for sure you can install both and then just just try which one you like you know you don't have to pick between them if you want something that's going to rely you know you can rely on every single time then go with CloudCode right CloudCode is like still super powerful super reliable but for day-to-day workflows I often use CloudCode because I know it's going to work every time whereas for example if you use an OpenClaw it could break right something could stop working so you've got to be careful with that but yeah that is the Hermes agent desktop app I've shown you how to set it up it's worked perfectly it's connected here we can manage our sessions our profiles and we can set up a virtual office for our AI agents we can switch between models we've got skills persona and it's just people going to say why are you going to use this right why would you use this well you would use it because number one it's easier to manage number two better UI number three easier to control all the tools memory skills and models and number four it feels nice when you use it and then number five is it's a free open source project and so like I like to check and try new things out and see what works so
