Paperclip AI Just Changed OpenClaw Forever

Paperclip AI just changed OpenClaw forever and if you're running any kind of business right now you need to understand what's just happened. So here's a simple version. OpenClaw is an AI agent. It works autonomously.

It handles tasks, sends messages, manages your inbox, does research all in one on its own. Millions of people are using it and it's genuinely powerful. But it's one agent, one worker and one worker has limits. What if you could give that worker a whole company to operate inside with other agents, with a budget, with a boss, with goals, with a full organization chart?

That's Paperclip and it just crossed 31,000 Github stars in weeks. Someone on Twitter said it better than I ever could. Resolver Ricky posted, OpenClaw is an employee, Paperclip is the company. That was one sentence and it sums it up perfectly.

That's the whole thing. Paperclip is open source, free to use, you set up, you define your company's goals, you hire agents inside your roles and a content agent for example could be set up. You could have a research agent, you could have a CEO and a CMO for example. You have a full organization chart.

Paperclip manages all of them from one single dashboard and one of the coolest things about this is you actually get real budgets per agent. Approval gates, you get an audit trail of every decision every agent makes and it runs 24-7 on a heartbeat schedule meaning your agents wake up, they check their work queue, they do their tasks and then they report back to you. You even get like an inbox with stuff to approve from them without you touching a thing. Now one of the greatest things about this is OpenClaw is powerful but what happens if you get 100x it?

You can because you can have 100 different AI agent employees inside one company using Paperclip and that's a beautiful thing about this. So for example Logan, one of the early OpenClaw community members put it like this, when I first started playing with OpenClaw this was a vision I had for where you could take agents. I started to build my own version, it's nowhere near as polished as this. He saw the vision and then Paperclip actually built it and that's the difference.

So let me talk you through what this actually happens and how this works inside Paperclip because this is where it gets interesting. So basically what you do is number one you have to install the GitHub repository. So you paste that into OpenClaw or to Cloud Code. You can have multiple agents from different software as well.

So you could have a Cloud Code agent inside the organization and then multiple OpenClaw agents and maybe some Hermes agents that are all working together. And so essentially what you do is you get that installed, it takes like one click, you paste the GitHub repository for Paperclip into your agent and say install this. It's free, it's open source and then once that's running it'll be running locally. From there you can then say for example once you've gone to the local host, define a company mission.

And that could be for example grow the AR Profit Boardroom community and help me get more traffic and that becomes a north star for everything. And then from there you hire agents. So you can give each one a role, you could have a marketing agent, a CEO agent, you could have an email agent, you could have a whole marketing team agent. But if every agent has a job description and a role and each agent knows exactly what they're responsible for and then every task they do traces back to that company mission so nothing goes rogue.

And here's the part that matters for anyone running a real business. Every agent actually gets a monthly budget so when they hit it they stop automatically. You actually get a warning for example at 80 percent or hard stop at 100 percent. No surprise bills, no runaway costs at 3am whilst you're asleep.

And you as a business owner, you are the board member right. You approve hires, you set strategy, you review output, you don't babysit everyone. Evan Drake who actually tested Paperclip publicly said the rise of autonomous companies is inevitable. I tested Paperclip today and it blew my mind.

And so that's a reaction from someone who's actually used it. Now here's where it gets really useful if you're running an agency, a solo consultancy or any kind of client facing business. Paperclip supports multiple companies in a single install so you can have complete data separation between each company that you run. And so if you're managing for example four clients you can have four different companies of AI agents working together.

Each with their own agents, goals, budgets, all from one single dashboard. And then your content agent for example draft posts at 2am, your research agent then pulls competitor intel at 4am, your outreach agent sends follow-ups at 7am and this is whilst you're sleeping. All logged, all traceable, all within budget. A freelancer running Paperclip is basically running an agency and it's doing it without hiring anyone.

So back to Paperclip. One thing that separates it from just pointing over for a task manager like for example Asana or Trello is the coordination layer underneath.

So Paperclip handles something called atomic task checkout meaning two agents can't just accidentally pick up the same task at the same time and that sounds small. It is not. That's something where you can have AI agents working together but if you're not careful and you don't use something like Paperclip then what happens is without this you start duplicating work. You send the same email twice, you write the same article twice, you get billed the same API credits twice because you've got two agents doing the same thing and nothing's coordinated and that's a problem that Paperclip actually solves.

Now it also keeps an agent state persistent so when an agent wakes up on a heartbeat it remembers exactly where it left off. You don't have to start from scratch again. It's got the context built in because it's got the job description and also the company goal that it's working towards so it doesn't forget what it's working on and that's why it works for like real business operations not just demos. And it's agent agnostic so you're not just locked in.

You could have one team, one department or one agent running on open core and then you could have another one running with core code and another one for codecs right and they're all managed under one roof. So for example Newman Ali who builds AI tools described it like this. I've never seen an agent orchestration system that operates across all business functions and I've never seen one that has been built with this level of design quality. Now this is a free tool.

You can get access to it on GitHub so it's definitely worth checking out even if you just want to experiment with it. Even if you're not planning to do anything serious with it. Now here's what's coming next for Paperclip and this part is worth paying attention to too. So they're building something called ClipMart and the idea is that it's a marketplace where you can download entire pre-built company templates in one click right.

So you could have a content agency template, you could have a lead generation template, you could have a research firm template right. You download it, you plug in your agents into Paperclip and your AI company is running. So 2025 was the year of the AI agent, the AI employee. Open core showed us what one agent could do.

For example 2026 is shaping up to be the year of the AI company. Paperclip is a tool that's making that real. And here's the thing about timing. The people who set this up now, whilst most business owners are still figuring out how to use chat GPT or even just a single AI agent, are going to be miles ahead in 12 months.

So what should you actually do with this? If you're already using open core, plug it into Paperclip, give it structure, give it a goal, give it a budget and let it run inside a real system instead of a standalone agent doing random tasks. If you're not using open core yet, I would start there first. Get one agent running.

It's always being updated, it's always improving all the time. And then get one agent, for example, give it a job, give it a task and start building out your organization chart with Paperclip. Understand how it works and then you can lay a Paperclip on top of this when you're ready to scale.
