Elon Musk just handed Anthropic over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, and the situation with Claude is absolutely crazy. The same guy who spent months sometimes publicly trashing Claude, let's be honest, the same guy who called Anthropic hypocritical, the same guy who runs a competing AI company, he just gave Claude more compute power than most AI labs will ever see. And that's only the beginning of what's happening with Claude right now. Because here's the thing, the Claude situation has changed completely in the last few weeks.
And if you use Claude for business, for content, for client work, for automation, what just happened affects you directly. So let's walk through what actually changed, why it matters and what you should be doing about it right now. First, the compute problem. If you've been using Claude over the last few months, you know the frustration.
You're hitting rate limits, you're running into walls, peak hours slowed down. Claude code cuts you off mid-task, and maybe you're paying for Pro or Max and still feeling like that was kind of rationed with you, right? That wasn't a Claude quality problem. The mod itself was excellent.
Opus is still one of the best reasoning models on the planet. The problem was that Anthropic made a bet a few years ago to not overinvest in compute infrastructure. Dario's thinking, who's the CEO of Anthropic, was basically if AI demand doesn't keep accelerating perfectly, we blow up the company. So they stayed conservative whilst OpenAI went all in.
AI demand exploded faster than anyone expected, and Anthropic got caught short. So now they're going on a compute shopping spree, and the SpaceX deal is the most dramatic move they've ever made. Here's what just happened. Anthropic signed a deal to use the entire Colossus One data center, SpaceX's massive GPU cluster in Memphis, Tennessee.
That's over 300 megawatts of capacity, over 220,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. And unlike most of Anthropic's other compute deals, this one is live right now. Not 2027, not end of the year. Now, the day the deal was announced, Anthropic doubled Claude Code's five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.
They removed the peak hours limit reduction. And they massively increased API rate limits for Opus. Some tiers went from hundreds of thousands of tokens per minute to multiple millions. And this is Anthropic finally showing its hand.
All the frustrating limits you hit, compute problem, now they have the compute. And it gets bigger. Anthropic also has a deal with Amazon for up to five gigawatts of new compute, with nearly one gigawatt coming online before the end of 2026. They have a five gigawatt agreement with Google and Broadcom starting in 2027.
A $30 billion Azure deal with Microsoft and NVIDIA and a $50 billion infrastructure investment with FluidStack. Oh, and Reuters reported Anthropic has committed to spending $100 billion with Google Cloud over five years. That represents more than 40% of Google's disclosed revenue backlog. It's enormous.
So the Claude you were using six months ago, dealing with limits, getting cut off, wondering why you're paying for something that throttles you. That version of Claude had one hand tied behind its back. What's coming next has both hands free. Now, why did Elon do this?
Because money makes strange alliances. Elon's Colossus 1 cluster was sitting in their underused after XAI moved its own training to Colossus 2. Those GPUs are insanely expensive to run idle. Every day they sit doing nothing.
XAI actually loses money. Anthropic needed compute. SpaceX had compute to sell. That's the core of it.
But there's probably another layer. Elon's biggest AI enemy isn't Anthropic. It's OpenAI. He's actively, you know, got a legal case against him.
He's described Sam Altman as, well, let's just say he's not so kind, right? And from Elon's view, helping Anthropic close the gap with OpenAI might actually serve his broader goal. Even if he has to smile and say nice things about the company, he spent months publicly attacking. He did soften publicly.
After meeting with Anthropic's team, he said he was impressed that they were highly competent. That no one triggered his, and I'm quoting here, evil detector, which is about the most Elon thing you could possibly say. But let's be real. This isn't a friendship.
It's a business transaction that happens to benefit both sides. Now, here's where it gets interesting for you if you're a business owner trying to actually use this stuff. Anthropic is targeting a near trillion dollar valuation. Their annualized revenue could be heading toward $45 billion.
The two biggest growth engines are Claude Code for developers and Cowork for enterprise users. That tells you exactly where they're investing. They're not just building a chatbot. They're building the operating layer for how knowledge work gets done.

Now, let's talk about the Miphos situation because this is the other major piece of the Claude story right now. Miphos is Anthropic's most powerful model, and they're not releasing it to the general public. During internal testing, Miphos found a 16-year-old vulnerability in FFmpeg, a 27-year-old bug in OpenBSD that could crash any machine reachable over the internet. Browser sandbox escapes across every major browser.
A Linux kernel bug that let it flip a single bit in memory and eventually gain full root access to a system. Mozilla reportedly used Miphos through Anthropic's controlled access program to find 271 vulnerabilities in Firefox, and then they fixed them. That's a good sign, right? Defensive security at a scale and speed that wasn't possible before.
But the broader point is this, and the IMF, the Bank of England, the FED, and basically every major financial regulator has flagged it. This isn't about one super hacker. The risk is what happens when capabilities like this become accessible to thousands of people who aren't security researchers. Skill compression, attack cost collapsing, what used to require a team of expensive specialists now requires a chat prompt.
And this is why they built Project Glasswing, a controlled initiative where selected large companies get Miphos across specifically to find and patch vulnerabilities in critical software. The Pentagon fight is related too. Anthropic reportedly refused to let Claude be used for autonomous weapons and mass surveillance. They got labeled a supply chain risk by the Trump administration.
They sued, a federal judge blocked it temporarily, and now there are reports the White House reopened talks. So Anthropic is simultaneously trying to be the most commercially successful AI company in the world, the safest AI company in the world, and the one that draws hard lines with government. That's an almost impossible position to hold. And for us as business owners and operators, the key question is this, what does all of this actually mean for how we use Claude?
Here's the honest answer. The compute expansion means Claude is about to become more reliable, more powerful for actual business use. The rate limit increases are already live. More is coming, longer context windows, faster responses, less hitting walls.
The Miphos situation tells you something important about where Claude's capabilities are heading. The same reasoning power that can find 27-year-old security vulnerabilities can dig deep into complex documents, find hidden patterns, make connections across large bodies of information, and generate insights that would take a human analyst days. That's a capability curve. It's steep.
And the commercial trajectory, the near trillion dollar valuation, the enterprise push, the co-work product for non-technical users, which is their desktop app for basically people who don't know how to use AI, tells you Anthropic is building for the long game. They're not a novelty. They're positioning Claude as infrastructure for how professional work gets done. That means getting good at Claude now isn't a trend to experiment with, right?
It's getting ahead of something that's going to be as normal as email in three years. The businesses that figure this out, figure out Claude-powered workflows for client delivery, for content research, for lead generation, they're building an operational advantage that compounds. The other thing worth understanding is the Cursor angle buried in all of this news. Cursor, one of the leading AI coding tools, signed a deal with SpaceX to use Colossus infrastructure for model training just weeks before the Anthropic deal was announced.
SpaceX currently has an option to acquire Cursor later in 2026 for around $60 billion. But now that Anthropic is using all of Colossus 1, Cursor is working off Colossus 2 alongside XAI. The implications for how the AI coding tool wars play out are real. OpenClaude, ClaudeCode, Cursor, they're all competing for the same developers, the same workflows, right?
And compute access is now part of that fight. The model is still happening, but it's not the only race. The infrastructure race, who has the GPUs, who has the power capacity, who has the data center agreements, that's running in parallel. And Anthropic just made one of the most aggressive moves in the race we've ever seen.
The SpaceX deal was live. The Amazon deal brings more capacity by the end of 2026. The Google deal starts in 2027. Anthropic will have, by the time all of that comes fully online, Anthropic will have more infrastructure beyond Claude than most people realize is being built right now.
