Codex 2.0: Automate ANYTHING!

So today we're going to be testing out the new codecs update. So this is like the super app from chat GPT and opening. I basically, what this allows you to do is to build and almost automate anything that you want, right? So for example, you can actually see here, like you can open up a new project and then you can tell it exactly what you want to edit, et cetera.

You can run this with open core. You can see, for example, it's connected to my open right here. We can also get it to use computer use and inside the new codecs update, you can manage your skills and everything else, right? So it's a really cool way to operate this.

One of the other interesting things about this is it now includes updates to manage, for example, like PDFs and spreadsheets and all sorts of cool stuff right there. I'm going to test out and see how it performs. All right. So if you want to get started with this, basically what you can see here is that we've got all these different folders running different things, right?

So for example, over here, we said build a flappy bird game, right? Over here we said like create a playable game, et cetera, right? So if we wanted to test this out, what we can actually do is we can set up a new chat here, add a new project, set up a new folder, and then you can basically build whatever you want, right? So inside here, you've also got default permissions of full access, so it can access your whole computer, or it can just use the default permissions.

We can select the folder that actually sets up in, and then we can select which model we want to use with this, right? So for example, it could be like GPT 5.4 and GPT 5.2, et cetera. We can also change the reasoning level. So it feels very similar in that way to something like Core desktop app.

And then inside here, we can build whatever we want, right? So for example, if we say, okay, create a beautiful productivity app that's fun, interesting to use, and then we can start getting that to run, right? Just need to upgrade, or we can actually switch to Codex as well, right? So if you switch to GPT 5.3 Codex, let's see here, one sec, bear with me, peeps.

All right, so we've got this set up now, we're good to go, and we can start using this, so let's try again, switch back to GPT 5.4, and there we go, right? So now it's going to start building the app for us. You can also tag, for example, like images and that sort of thing when you create with this, and you've also got this option for made for always on background, right? So with automations, you can set up automations, it just runs in the background for you.

Now what you also got this, this background computer use now, right? So it can use all of the apps, not just on your browser, but also on your computer. So you can see, click it and type with its own cursor, and it's got multiple agents that can work on your Mac in parallel, super useful for doing that, as you can see right here. So this is an example, right?

It's got the chat app over here, and then it can build whatever you want, and it can open up apps and that sort of thing. So let's try this out now. We'll set up a new folder, open this up, and we'll see if it can use Hermes Workspace, or Claude, use, so you can see now it says, Hermes running the terminal now, and it's sitting at the interactive prompt, ready for output. So we'll say, okay, can you talk about life to Hermes?

And we're doing this with parallel agents, right? So we've got one agent over here, and this is building out a productivity app. And then we've also got Hermes inside the terminal, and it's going to start chatting with Hermes right here, right? Now on the right hand side, as you go through this stuff, so if we click on here, you can see that it begins to build out like the artifacts, the progress, and also the sources, right?

So what skills is it using? So in this example, it's using like the brainstorming skill to run this, and also the front end design skill. That's going to call on skills depending on what you're using. So for example, if we're building out an app, like you can see here, then it's going to call on the front end and back end design skills.

Let's try something else now. So it should be able to use apps for us as well. Let's see how this works. So you can actually get Hermes to run browser automations too.

So you can actually operate our Hermes agent. Let's see if it can actually use computer use directly. So this intro has actually refused to go to chatgpt.com. We need to allow the permissions, I think.

So let's just try this. So let's see if it can open up calculator. Ah, there we go. Right.

So we can approve it opening up apps on our laptop. So let's just click yes. Yeah, look at that. So it can actually use the app itself, right?

So we said, open up calculator for me. It asks for permissions. And then in 12 seconds, open up, right? And that was super fast.

Let's just see if it can actually do more. So we'll say type in a fun word on the calculator, and then we have to allow permissions here, open up, you can see here it asks for permissions. So we'll just do that now. And boom, look at that.

So you can type into the calculator as well. So it can operate like apps for you. The thing that blows my mind is like how fast that works. In five seconds, it can start typing into the calculator for us directly.

Now, if we come back here, we've now got the app ready to go. So if we launch that, you can see that we can preview the app directly inside codecs as well. It looks super nice, actually. Like this has improved a lot since I last used it.

And then you can see the design. You can see the UI. We can test it out. We can add a quest, blah, blah, blah.

This is really, really cool. So I'm going to see if you can open up that app and test it for me. Let's see if we can do that. So we've got the preview on the right hand side.

We have the app that we asked it to build here inside the chat. We can come back to this folder whenever we want to. Then we can also get it to run commands and operate agents for us. Plus you can open up apps and type directly into them.

So there's a lot more you can do with this new update. That's really interesting. So it's now just opened this up for us. Um, as you can see right here, now can it test it for us?

Let's see. So it can't click. It seems to struggle still with like clicking inside there. I think there is a setup for this.

Like I'm going to say you can use it in Chrome for me. We'll try that. Yeah. So it's opening up now, but it can't use Chrome directly.

So it's, it's still not quite as, I'm sure there's a setup for that, but it seems to be struggling when I'm talking to it directly and, uh, is it can't operate the actual app itself, right? Let's have a look here. So it's beginning to natively work. The app now includes an app browser.

So it's got a browser built in, which is this one here, right? So this is a browser built in. I assume I want to say, can you use your inbuilt browser to test it out? See if that works.

We should be able to get it working like this. I says the codecs codecs, the app may support app browser can be used in some contexts, but it's not letting me do it in this session, which is weird. You can also generate images with GPT image 5.1, 1.5 as well. And there's some cool stuff here, but I don't see how it can use your browser.

Like it just seems to refuse it to me. May, I'm sure if I spend more time on this, we could actually use it more, but right now it seems to be limited computer use, right? But it can use app use pretty nicely as well. So that's basically it for, for the new codecs app.

It's pretty nice. It's sleek. Would I say I prefer it versus cloud code desktop app? No, but it's, it's definitely better than it was.
